Reed is a very devout catholic. His life is rigid and nothing changes from day to day. Until he runs into Nic, his best friend from 20 years ago. Nic, the Episcopal priest. Once they get reacquainted their lives become totally entangled. Nic needing Reed as much as he needs to breathe. Reed desperately wants Nic but can’t reconcile his religious beliefs with wanting a man. They belong together but their issues have to be worked through first. So much indecision and angst between these guys. I worried about the priest issue but I didn’t need too. This author like to push boundaries and excels at it. Nice, satisfying, well done story.

A Taste Of Sin is angsty. Like so angsty. I wasn't very far into my reading when I messaged my best friend like "this book makes me want to drink." There's so much tension between these two characters my heart was both bleeding for them and was frustrated with their back and forth.Reed is very lost. He lives a structured life and tries to pretend he's content in it. It's not until Dominic walks back into his life that he realizes he's been lying to himself for over twenty years. For Reed, it's hard to come to terms with his desires and his religion. He absolutely broke my heart and pissed it off at the same time. His hot and cold, while understandable, was unfair to both of them. Reed does a lot of growing, a lot of thinking, a lot of accepting in this book and it's admirable because the decisions he has to make aren't easy ones. Especially when you know deep down that it's okay to feel the way you do but have yet to come to terms with what those feelings actually mean.Dominic, oh Dominic is just everything. All I'll say is that if he were my priest I sure as hell would go to church more often than I do. Dominic has loved Reed since they were kids. He spent years hurting for the boy he lost, only to come face to face with him after finally closing off that part of his heart. I felt for him so much. He loved Reed but he didn't want to get hurt by Reed. And I didn't blame him. No one wants to get their heart broken. These two men had so much going against them. Even though Reed wasn't sure about anything when it came to Dominic, he still followed his desires. He clung to his misguided faith, but in doing so he let it lead him to what was truly important to him. Seeing him learn and grow with and without Dominic was special. Because he was able to get to a place where he realized he could have both. Where he was allowed to have both.I think that's one of the things that causes me to stay away from the other priest books. The back and forth, the use of faith to push the character one way or the other. While A Taste Of Sin is not preachy at all. It does have some very good points about faith that I am glad are in there. With Reed's struggles and eventual acceptance of himself, the reader can see that it may be possible for them to come to terms with their life. That may not be the intention, but it's there and I am so grateful it is.Kate Hawthorne wrote a book featuring a rather sensitive subject matter and she turned it into a love story about two men that left me speechless. It was angsty, so angsty I thought I would explode before any of the good stuff happened. It made me cry, in public no less. Besides the fact that Reed and Dominic took their sweet time getting on the same page, this book was brilliantly thought out and smartly written.A Taste Of Sin is book one in the Secrets in Edgewood series and I cannot wait to find out what else this town has in store for us.

Holy angst!! This was amazing, I couldn’t put it down! I truly fell in love with Nic and Reed. The sexual tension and angst in this book was off the charts hot. The chemistry and back and forth between Nic and Reed just kept you hooked and both wanting to race to the end of the book, and also never wanting it to end! Reed’s struggle with his faith and reconciling that to the feelings he’s always had for Nic was so emotional. This book really hit all the emotional feels for me. Honestly I can’t say more about how much I enjoyed this book.I don’t often find time to re-read, but I know this one is going on that short list. I couldn’t recommend this read more.

Dominic & Reed get a second chance, but it’s twenty years late and very unexpected.Reed has built a safe, straight laced life that’s full of predictable respectability as a devout Catholic. Dominic is just as dedicated to his Episcopal faith but has made sure his choices wouldn’t hold him back. This book is full of angst... no, turmoil is a word that works better I think. But it’s also very sweet and these men have something beautiful together. Dominic wasn’t really looking for something, but he was always hopeful for a chance with the one he lost and only fears for his heart. Reed although desperate for this connection, fears the judgement of others and the fate of his soul. It was hard to read at times, wading through all the emotion and doubt. Anyone who has struggled to reconcile the differences of their identity and faith or how they were raised will really relate to this one. I can see how this one tested Hawthorn but in the end it is wonderfully written. Lovely, heart wrenching launch to a new series. I can’t wait to discover more of the secrets in Edgewood!

A Taste of Sin is beautiful and heartbreaking and hot as heck! I love this book so much!!Reed and Nic are made for each other and their chemistry is off the charts. The story tells the struggles Reed faces while he realizes his true self without the overshadowing of guilt from the religious views he was taught as a child. Throughout all of Reed’s struggles, Nic is there to help him see how beautiful and freeing it is to accept his true self, and love without fear of persecution or guilt. This book is absolutely amazing and hot as hell!! Nic and Reed’s love is so beautiful. I highly recommend it!!

Kate delivers another winner in this emotional story of buttoned up Catholic school Principal Reed who accidentally runs into long lost foster brother Nic (Dominic) now Father O’Halloran, an Episcopalian priest who has not ever forgotten him. Angst, and steamy heat & religious turmoil ensue as well as bigotry and betrayal in their past. Loved it!

This is one of the best books I've read in a while. Nic and Reed are given a second chance at love but it's not easy. There is everything - angst, lust, love, fear and regret. This story is one you will find hard to put down!
