I have a big family and am constantly preparing meals for friends and family who have diabetes, heart disease, food intolerances or are just plain picky eaters. While I thought I understood the dynamics of Type 1 Diabetes, this book taught me so much that I can use in my daily choices and menus. I love how the recipes are marked specifically when they are gluten-free, nut-free, vegan, etc. We have tried a few of the recipes and they were all crowd-pleasers. My kids loved the snack ideas and made them themselves because the directions were so easy-to-follow! A great find.

I think that this cookbook is perfect for parents of newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetes kids - or anyone who wants to understand what healthy eating is and how to make delicious, healthy meals. The chapters about Type 1 diabetes are really informative - the author describes complex nutritional interactions with straightforward explanations that even a nutritional newbie like me can understand. My family has a mind-numbing list of dietary needs: gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, low-fat, low-carb - it drives me crazy trying to get meals on the table that everyone can eat and love. This easy-to-use cookbook gives thorough and accurate nutritional information for each recipe and labels each one clearly. Makes it simple to find recipes that meet exactly the kind of diet I need it to. Plus, the recipes are super easy and - unlike other cookbooks I've bought in the past - these recipes are not just embellished retreads of basics that everyone knows how to make. The recipes I've tried so far have been winners - love the peanut butter protein bites! Yum!!

No one in my family is diabetic but I bought the book to support the author, a very good friend. Knowing her has not influenced my review in any way. Laurie is very knowledgeable re T1D. Some of the recpies look so delicious I will be making them. They are healthy, and use everyday ingredients, nothing exotic. I like the fact that while it is a T1D book everyone could benefit from the low calories and the fun way she has turned some boring foods into visually and I’m sure tasty meals. A real winner!

If you want to know about how type 1 diabetes is treated in easy to understand language, this is the book for you. The opening of the book provides all the basics and attaches really helpful additional resource links for topics such a glycemic index, carb counting tools and gluten free foods. After trying recipes and reading the information, it is easy to understand the role of a healthy diet. Highly recommended.

Simply stated this book provides basic principles of TID and how to manage blood sugars. It occurred to me after reading this book that although I don't have diabetes, management is not only about Carb Counting and Insulin. I am definately going to speak with my endocrinologist about how to consider total protein and fat content in foods to better manage blood sugar levels and weight.I like that the recipes are so simple to follow and they are really good. I made a few recipes already and was really happy with how they tasted.Always learning new ways!

As a Registered Dietitian that works with a variety of clients, including those with Diabetes, I found the information in the book to be highly educational, user-friendly and applicable for anyone with Type1 Diabetes. The first part of the book is a good overview of the basic science of diabetes, including smart shopping tips and incorporating healthy habits. A large portion of the book highlights delicious, easy-to-follow recipes for creating well-balanced meals for managing Type 1 diabetes. Many recipes include anti-inflammatory foods and herbs and may be complemented with fruits, vegetables and healthy grains for adequate calories and carbohydrate intake. I appreciate the author including tips from the Environmental Working Group, as well as a comprehensive list of resources for diabetic education. Additionally, the author adds lifestyle suggestions for holidays, vacations… this is more than just a cookbook!

Easy reading, recipes, and uses type 1 diabetes terminology with helpful nutrition ideas and concepts that are important for anyone living with diabetes.There are no menu plans but the recipes and carb counts are helpful especially for those on multiple dose injections and adjust for carbs. Im giving it 5 stars because it is a PRACTICAL COOKBOOK with few ingredients and more information that I expected.
