About the Author
Denise Anderson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington, where she teaches a variety of courses including general microbiology, medical bacteriology laboratory, and medical mycology/parasitology laboratory. Equipped with a diverse educational background, including undergraduate work in nutrition and graduate work in food science and in microbiology, she first discovered a passion for teaching when she taught microbiology laboratory courses as part of her graduate training. Her enthusiastic teaching style, fueled by regular doses of Seattle’s famous coffee, receives high reviews by her students. Outside of academic life, Denise relaxes in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle, where she lives with her husband, Richard Moore, and dog, Dudley (neither of whom are well trained). When not planning lectures, grading papers, or writing textbook chapters, she can usually be found chatting with the neighbors, fighting the weeds in her garden, or enjoying a fermented beverage at the local pub.

This is not the first time I've bought textbooks through Amazon. In the past, I've bought new books and they come wrapped, in excellent condition (as to be expected with new books) and with access code if there is one.Well, I bought this textbook new as my professor is requiring it along with the working access code. I expected this book to come new, wrapped, and with access code, especially for $135, and when it arrived, it's unwrapped and with no access code to be seen. However, I DO see the access code being sold separately here. This feels like highway robbery, as I expect this book to have the code included since it was bought new, and it's not cheap. Because my professor is requiring me to have that code, I have to return this book.Overall, I'm pretty disappointed. I expect textbooks ordered new to come with their respective access code that I and many other students need as a requirement.
By no means would I willingly choose to buy this, however I needed this book for a college course. It arrived on time, was gently used and overall was in great shape. I was very pleased and this book really helped me to do well in the class. I would recommend renting versus buying based on price, unless you plan to use the book for something other than a college course.
Compared to other microbiology textbooks this one was great. It did a good job explaining subjects and providing illustrations and concise summaries of information in table form. But, really, the faster this quarter is done the better. It's a tough subject requiring an extensive amount of studying just due to the tedious nature of the material.
Decided to buy the Used-Good version to save money but ended up with a definitely used version in bad condition. I attached photos to show how bad the damage to the cover and beginning pages is. The book is still readable but I feel like it might fall apart at any second and is definitely not in good condition.
Good textbook. One minor binding problem: it is coming apart where the paper meets the back cover. Hasn't separated yet, but the final page that is supposed to be glued to the back cover sticks out from the cover about a half inch.

The book arrived in brand new condition! Or at least appeared that way. I needed this book for my one quarter of microbiology and this saved me a ton of money over buying the mediocre loose leaf version from my school's bookstore. Would definitely rent again if I needed to in the future.
I've read better micro books that are less confusing..it almost breaks everything down TOO much but the visuals they use are great and its really in depth and specific
