Junjou Romantica or “Pure Romance”, which has many alternate titles, is a yaoi manga series by Shungiko Nakamura that focuses on three story lines: the main couple Usagi (famous author) and Misaki (college student), whose stormy romance comprises the majority of the books, and two other couples that provide ongoing side stories titled: “Junjo Egoist” and “Junjo Terrorist”. Junjo Egoist is about Kamijou Hiroki (college professor) and Kusama Nowaki (med-student), and Junjo Terrorist is a slow burn romance between Miyagi (college professor) and his very young ex brother-in-law Shinobu (high school student). The books have branched into several Drama-CDs, a manga series running in Asuka Ciel, and a 24 episode anime series, as well as a light novel series titled "Junai Romantica" that’s run in The Ruby magazine.I watched the shows first (Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi and Junjou Romantica), then found the mangas to read. Both have engrossing plots and provide an in-depth portrait of what publishing in the manga world is like, as I was informed, quite true to form. So, since I find publishing fascinating, I really enjoyed these series, carefully absorbing every word. But I can’t decide which if either appeals to me more. The only thing I will say is I was drawn to certain couples. In Junjou Romantica my favourite relationship was Hiro-san (Kamijou) and Nowaki (Kusama). No matter the turbulence throughout their lengthy courtship, these intensely romantic men manage to stay together. To a lesser degree I also favoured Usagi and Misaki. With the two series and separate movie there's a little something for everyone, even a relationship between an older man and a confused teenager, which honestly, was very sweet and tastefully done, at least in the anime series. When Shinobu gave his big, heart-felt speech to Miyagi on the beach (hotel room in the manga Vol. 7) I cried. It reminded me of my own youth and the first man I was in love with at the tender age of sixteen. I even sympathized with the older male characters, some of which had become battering rams for their younger, overly emotional counterparts. Anyway, you get the gist. The mangas are just as enthralling with the crazy humour, intense drama and unique art, but more sexually explicit. My favourite part is the private dialogue between the couples. Each character has his own voice, which gives him a distinct personality. This is an awesome series worth reading.

For those of you who don't know... this is an anime series already finished with the second season and it is as great as the manga! Ok now, this is the 12th installment and I loved it, I thought that I might get bored of Misaki and Usagi-san constantly in the 'yes you want it' 'no old pervert I don't!' roles, but I still find this volume fresh and funny. I also love how the author has added in more characters to ever tip Usagi over the edge. I just hate how long I have to wait for them to be published in the states. This volume is about Misaki realizing he is a senior and 21 years old... soon he has to find a job and decide whether or not he wants to reveal his relationship with Usagi to his brother or move out of the house he and his lover have shared for the last three years. Ouch.. you'd figure the answer would be obvious right? Not so much with this guy. Two of Usagi-san's cousins are staying with him and driving both Misaki and Usagi crazy. Misaki is constantly being barbed and his own jealousy (yes it's there just hidden very deep) keeps being threaten to the surface. There's also a very very short Ego story and I sometimes feel I never get to see Nowaki grow even more, he's a little one dimensional 'I love you Hiro-san, thank you Hiro-san, I love you Hiro-san' you get the idea. But Hiro-san is one of my favorite characters so it's always funny to see him grow and react. I really want a terrorist story, those are so funny and I really hope something works out though that 17 year age difference sometimes has me absolutely grimacing (I pretend it's under 10). All around the plot is still fresh, the characters still funny, and I love how insecure the mighty Usagi-san is around Misaki. Love it! Anyone know when the next is due?

Volume 12 was perfect. It contained drama, heartache, and steamy romance. Romantica is really developing, in this volume. Misaki is spreading his wings, and Akihiko can see that. Although they hit some bumps in this volume, there is no need to worry. By the end, however, when you turn that last page and begin to flip through all of the advertisement pages, desperately craving for more, you'll know exactly why you want the next volume ASAP. That's just how good this edition was. Also, guess who's birthday it is! Nowaki turns a year older. Even though there is still that four-year age gap between him and Hiroki, no worries--Hiroki has a nice birthday surprise in store, for his lover.

I gave this series a shot, not really hoping to get anything good out of it, but I am glad that I made the effort. I love this series; its funny, romantic and entertaining. I love the funny romance between the main characters. The other two stories are lovely as well. I decided to collect them all, I just have to keep reading and laughing. I totally recommend it, you will not be disappointed.

Junjo Romantica is an amazing series from Shungiku Nakamura. The artwork is beautiful, while the writing is gripping. You never know what these characters will have to face next! It's a very fun read. :)

I am a big fan of Junjo Romantica. The story plot is just too funny for words to describe it. I truly think that Nakamura sensei has a wicked sense of humour when it comes to the Misaki-Usagi relationship. And I especially look forward to reading all about the antics of Hiro-san in his relationship with Nowaki. What an uptight man that Hiro-san is - it's a great relief that someone like him needs a human typhoon like Nowaki to blow his mind off every now and then. I can't wait to read Volume 13!

So cute!Misaki and Usagi. This couple will always be my favorite! <3

I'm always satisfied with this mangas. They're always so cute and funny that I can't get tire of them.
